Wedding bells     Why something blue for the bride to be?

"Something old, something new, Something borrowed, something blue. And a silver sixpence in her shoe." It is generally agreed that this wedding tradition as a whole started in Britain, since a sixpence is a silver British coin, which, when first minted in 1551 was worth about 6 pennies.

As is the case with many traditions, book sources differ as to the earliest origins of wearing blue for a wedding. Some state that the origin was from a Roman tradition to denote purity and fidelity. Others point to Jewish traditions that are similar, and some suggest a connection with statues of 'Virgin Mary' often being clothed in blue. A combination of all of the above, one passed down from the other is likely.

We suggest the sapphire blue crystal ankle bracelet at the top of this page as one of our something blue bridal offerings. Our other choices are a dark blue crystal anklet and for the really bold, a pearl and crystal ankle bracelet with dangles.
