Jewelry featuring freshwater pearls with an iridescent, silver to silver-bronze finish. Freshwater pearls come in a range of colors, depending on the growing conditions. The darker silver and bronze based pearls are treated to create a nacre that highlights the natural iridescence of the pearl. There are several methods used by modern cultivators to achieve the varying darker colors. This treatment is permanent, or 'color-fast', which means the color will not fade or shift any more than the natural color of a pearl. We avoid color dyed pearls. Pearls with unnatural looking pastel blue, green or purple finishes are simply soaked in dye. This process only stains the pearl, so therefore, not color-fast.
